Description

This 2017-D American Liberty Medal was produced at the Denver Mint as part of the 225th Anniversary of the United States Mint Set. The set commemorated the founding of the U.S. Mint in 1792 with medals struck at each of the four active mint facilities. The 225th anniversary was a significant milestone for one of the oldest federal agencies in continuous operation. The Denver Mint has been producing coins and medals since 1906 and is one of the largest minting facilities in the world. The U.S. Mint's Philadelphia facility has been the primary production site for medals since the nation's founding, though other mint facilities including San Francisco, Denver, and West Point have also contributed to medal production. This medal features the American Liberty design appropriate to the anniversary celebration, combining patriotic imagery with acknowledgment of the Mint's quarter-millennium of service to the nation.
