The 2016 First Spouse Gold is a United States coin from the First Spouse Gold 2007 to Date series. The obverse features a portrait of the presidential spouse (or a representation of Liberty for unmarried presidents), while the reverse displays a scene from the life of the featured spouse. Designed by Various U.S. Mint designers. Struck in 99.99% gold, weighing 15.55 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. The First Spouse Gold Coin series (2007-present) was created to accompany the Presidential Dollar program, honoring the spouses of U.S. presidents. Each half-ounce .9999 fine gold coin features a unique obverse portrait and a reverse depicting a notable contribution or accomplishment of the featured spouse. Low mintages and high gold content make these coins both collectible and intrinsically valuable. Issues for lesser-known first ladies tend to have the lowest mintages.
