Description
The 2014 (D) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel minted at the Denver Mint, within the Jefferson Nickels Return to Monticello 2006 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 570.7 million examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing forward in a three-quarter view, the first forward-facing portrait on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays Monticello in a refined depiction. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906.
