Description
The 2012 (S) Proof Lincoln Shield Cent is a proof cent struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Lincoln Shield Cents 2010 to Date series. Total mintage reached 1.2 million. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right and the reverse displays a Union shield with a scroll banner reading ONE CENT, symbolizing Lincoln's preservation of the Union. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors.
