Description

The 2010 (W) Buchanan's Liberty First Spouse Ten Dollar Gold was struck at the West Point Mint as a $10 gold coin in the First Spouse Gold 2007 to Date series. The West Point Mint struck 5,348 uncirculated Buchanan's Liberty First Spouse $10 gold coins dated 2010. The obverse features Christian Gobrecht's Liberty Head from the quarter eagle, a design in use during James Buchanan's presidency, chosen because he served without a spouse, and the reverse displays a scene tied to his life. James Buchanan was the only president who never married; the obverse features a Liberty Head design from his era. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Coined at the West Point Mint, which transitioned from bullion depository to a dedicated production facility for commemorative and investment-grade coins. Struck in 99.99% gold, weighing 15.55 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #418381.
