Description

The 2010 (D) Satin Finish Kennedy Half Dollar is a special strike half dollar struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Kennedy Half Dollars Clad and Silver Proof 1971 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 583,897 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 6 mint variants, representing only 9% of total production. The obverse features John F. Kennedy facing left, based on the presidential medal by Gilroy Roberts and the reverse displays the Presidential Seal — a heraldic eagle with shield, olive branch, and arrows. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $470 SP69 09-07-2016 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.3 grams, 30.61 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #416791.
