Description
The 2009 (W) Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle is a Gold Double Eagle produced at the West Point Mint as part of the Ultra High Relief Twenty Dollar Gold 2009 series. The U.S. Mint produced 114,427 examples. The obverse features Liberty striding forward holding a torch and olive branch, with rays of sunlight behind her — widely considered the most beautiful U.S. coin design — faithfully reproduced from the original ultra-high-relief 1907 design that was deemed too impractical for mass production, while the reverse displays a flying eagle with the rising sun behind it in ultra-high relief. Designed by Augustus Saint Gaudens. Struck in 99.99% gold, weighing 31.1 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #407404. The 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin realized Augustus Saint-Gaudens' original 1907 vision in modern production technology. One of the most celebrated modern Mint products. Each coin contains one ounce of .9999 fine gold struck in dramatic high relief with lettered edge.
