The 2009 (D) Native American Dollar - Position B is a dollar minted at the Denver Mint, within the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint struck 35.7 million 2009 (D) Native American dollars in all, Position B and Position A together; how the total divides between them is not recorded. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2009 Native American Dollar honors the Three Sisters method of companion planting developed by Indigenous peoples, in which corn, beans, and squash are grown together. The reverse depicts a Native American woman planting seeds surrounded by the three crops. The reverse was redesigned annually beginning this year under the Native American $1 Coin Program, featuring different themes honoring Native American contributions. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition.
