The 2007 (W) Proof American Eagle One Hundred Dollar Platinum - Frosted FREEDOM is a proof platinum coin struck at the West Point Mint, part of the American Eagle One Hundred Dollar Platinum 1997 to Date series. The Mint has said that 12 of these pre-production coins were struck, with the word FREEDOM left frosted instead of polished, and that they reached the production stream by mistake. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty facing forward and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield crossed by a banner reading FREEDOM, for the executive branch. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck at the West Point Mint, originally a bullion depository that became a full coin production facility, specializing in commemorative and bullion issues. Struck in 99.95% platinum, weighing 31.12 grams, 32.7 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #506623.
