Description

The 2007 (S) Proof Washington State Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The U.S. Mint produced 2.4 million examples, making this ranked 16th of 30 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse depicts a King salmon leaping from the water before a majestic view of Mount Rainier. Salmon are central to Washington State's ecology, economy, and Native American heritage. Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins.
