The 2006 (S) Proof San Francisco Old Mint Dollar is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. The San Francisco Mint struck 207,248 proof San Francisco Old Mint Centennial dollars dated 2006. The obverse shows the Old Mint building and the reverse the eagle of the Morgan dollar. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins.
