Description

The 2001 (P) Sacagawea Dollar represents a Philadelphia Mint issue from the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 62.5 million examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars representing the states in the Union at the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition. This original Sacagawea dollar design was used from 2000 through 2008. Second year of production. Mintages declined as public rejection of the golden dollar became apparent. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #15000.
