Description

The 2000 (W) Proof American Eagle Fifty Dollar Platinum is a proof platinum coin struck at the West Point Mint, part of the American Eagle Fifty Dollar Platinum 1997 to Date series. The Mint sold 11,049 half-ounce proofs dated 2000. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty facing forward and the reverse displays an eagle flying over a Midwestern field with a barn and a farmhouse. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck at the West Point Mint, originally a bullion depository that became a full coin production facility, specializing in commemorative and bullion issues. Struck in 99.95% platinum, weighing 15.56 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #99781.
