Description

The 1997 (P) Botanical Dollar is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. The U.S. Mint produced 57,272 examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $509 MS70 02-28-2011 eBay. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9746.
