Description
A proof Washington quarter from 1995, struck at the San Francisco Mint with the "S" mintmark. Struck in 90% silver (returning to the pre-1965 composition for this special collector edition), this coin was produced using specially prepared dies and polished planchets, resulting in mirror-like fields and frosted design elements characteristic of modern proof coinage. The obverse features John Flanagan's portrait of George Washington, and the reverse depicts a heraldic eagle. Silver proof quarters were introduced in 1992 as a premium alternative to the standard clad proof sets, appealing to collectors who valued the traditional precious-metal content.
