Description
The 1995 (P) Civil War Dollar is a commemorative dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The Philadelphia Mint struck 45,866 uncirculated Civil War Battlefield Preservation dollars dated 1995. Authorized to raise funds for the preservation of Civil War battlefields, this dollar was part of a three-coin program; Civil War artist Don Troiani designed its obverse. The obverse features a Union soldier offering a canteen to a wounded Confederate soldier, symbolizing reconciliation, while the reverse displays a view of the Gettysburg landscape with a quote from Joshua Chamberlain: 'In great deeds something abides'. Designed by Don Troiani/John Mercanti. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9700.
