Description
The 1994 (W) Vietnam Dollar is a commemorative dollar struck at the West Point Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 53,317 examples. Authorized to commemorate the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., designed by Maya Lin and dedicated in 1982. The obverse features a section of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall with an outstretched hand touching a name, the Washington Monument and a tree visible in the background, while the reverse displays three military service medals from the Vietnam era — the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Designed by John M. Mercanti/Thomas D. Rogers. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9692. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial dollar's poignant scene of a hand touching a name is one of the most emotionally moving designs in U.S. coinage history.
