Description

Seventh and highest-numbered rim cud documented for the 1994 Philadelphia Mint Washington Quarter, CU-25c-1994P-07 caps a series of rim failure discoveries that make 1994-P one of the more extensively cataloged dates for quarter cuds. A rim cud represents the loss of part of the die's rim gutter: on the coin it appears as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course. Seven cuds from a single date and mint represents a noteworthy concentration, especially for the copper-nickel clad Washington Quarter series where individual dates rarely accumulate this many documented rim failures. The 1994-P was struck during the final years of the pre-State Quarter era, when John Flanagan's original eagle reverse design remained in continuous production as it had since 1932.
