The 1993 (W) Proof World War II 50th Anniversary Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a proof five-dollar gold coin struck at the West Point Mint, part of the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series. The West Point Mint struck 67,026 proof World War II 50th Anniversary five-dollar gold coins dated 1991-1995. The obverse features an American serviceman raising his rifle in victory, and the reverse displays a large V with the Morse code for V, and laurel. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck at the West Point Mint, originally a bullion depository that became a full coin production facility, specializing in commemorative and bullion issues. Struck in 90% gold and 10% alloy, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9679.
