Description

The 1993 (D) Madison Dollar is a dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. The U.S. Mint produced 98,383 examples, making this the scarcer of two mint variants, with 16% of total production. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $552 MS70 12-30-2003 Heritage Auctions.
