Description
The 1989 (D) Congressional Commemorative Half Dollar is a half dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Modern Commemorative Half Dollars (1982-Date) series. The U.S. Mint produced 163,753 examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $4,400 MS70 07-20-2014 Great Collections. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9632.
