Description
The 1986 (D) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 361.8 million examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Standard production year from both mints. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4117.
