1983 (P) Jefferson Nickel - CU-5c-1983P-20 Rim Cud

Description

The twentieth documented cud for the 1983-P Jefferson Nickel, cataloged by Cuds on Coins with JNC file numbers from the Thurman and Margolis Cud Book. A rim cud represents the loss of part of the die's rim gutter: on the coin it appears as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course. No cross-references to other catalogs are currently known. Twenty cuds for a single date-mint is a remarkable concentration suggesting either elevated die failure rates at Philadelphia in 1983 or exceptionally thorough searching by cud specialists. At 75% copper and 25% nickel, 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1983-P still carried Schlag's original design. Cuds are among the most dramatic errors.
