The Bronze Small Date occupies a distinctly limited production niche within the 1982 Philadelphia cent landscape — it represents one of four possible subtype combinations, but its manufacturing window was constrained by both the introduction of the zinc composition and the availability of small date dies, making confirmed die breaks on this specific configuration proportionally scarcer than those on the dominant Bronze Large Date. The solid copper-zinc alloy fills the die void uniformly, producing a cud whose surface is chemically and visually continuous with the surrounding design field.
