The existence of a Bronze B-state specimen alongside the Bronze A-state entry tells a specific production story: the die was already fracturing when it struck bronze planchets (producing the A-state coins), continued deteriorating through additional bronze strikes until reaching the B-state threshold, and — given the zinc entries under both A and B designations — also struck zinc planchets at both progression stages. This complete four-specimen documentation of a single die's progressive failure across two compositions and two die states represents the richest possible data capture for a 1982 paired entry. On the bronze planchet, the B-state cud's expanded featureless plateau covers a larger area of solid copper-zinc alloy than the A-state version, and the fracture boundary may show signs of the fragment's progressive displacement — a slightly wider gap, a less precisely defined edge, or a subtle shift in the angle at which the raised metal meets the intact design field.
