This metallurgical simplicity makes the bronze rim cud a cleaner diagnostic specimen in some respects — the fracture boundary is defined solely by the geometry of the die break rather than by any interaction between surface plating and substrate, and the color continuity between the raised strip and the intact rim eliminates the subtle tonal variations that plating thickness changes can introduce on zinc specimens.
