Description

The 1982 (D) Jefferson Nickel represents a Denver Mint issue from the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 373.7 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 56% of production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Sharply reduced mintages due to the recession, making both 1982-P and 1982-D relatively scarce in the series. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $7 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4109.
