(1977-78) Dollar Pattern - RB-1510, GOULD
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
Reed-Brenner 1510 is the third entry in the RB-1500 fine-resolution cluster, positioned between RB-1505 and the cluster's culminating entry, RB-1515. As the penultimate composition in the most densely tested range of the Gould program, RB-1510 contributes essential data to the performance gradient that maps alloy behavior across the 1500-1515 compositional space. Each Gould dollar pattern was produced in limited quantities — typically a few dozen or fewer specimens per composition — using dies that were carefully controlled to ensure consistent striking pressure and die alignment across all test pieces. This consistency was essential for valid comparative analysis, as variations in striking conditions would confound the metallurgical data. The pieces were then distributed to Mint testing laboratories and, in some cases, to vending machine manufacturers for compatibility assessment.
Rarity Notes
R-7. Very rare. NGC census records an image for this piece.
