(1977-78) Dollar Pattern - RB-1370, GOULD
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
Reed-Brenner 1370 is the final entry in the Gould RB-1300 alloy family, positioned just above the fine-resolution cluster at RB-1350/1355/1360. The ten-unit gap between RB-1360 and RB-1370 returns to the coarser spacing seen between RB-1335 and RB-1350, indicating that RB-1370 represents a variant at the upper compositional boundary of this alloy family. By bracketing the optimized cluster with outliers at both ends (RB-1335 below and RB-1370 above), Gould's researchers could demonstrate to the Mint that the recommended composition within the 1300 range was genuinely optimal — performance would degrade in both directions as the alloy moved away from the center of the cluster. This kind of evidence-based presentation was important in competitive bidding scenarios where multiple firms were vying for a major Mint contract, and Gould needed to substantiate its technical claims with rigorous data.
Rarity Notes
R-7 to R-8. Very rare. No NGC census image available.
