Description
The 1973 (D) Eisenhower Dollar is a dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Eisenhower Dollars 1971-1978 series. With a mintage of 2 million, this is an extremely rare issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 41% of production. The obverse features Dwight D. Eisenhower facing left and the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon with an olive branch in its talons, commemorating the Apollo 11 lunar landing. No business strikes were released into circulation — Eisenhower Dollars were available only in official Mint Sets and collector packaging, making 1973-P and 1973-D scarce. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $18 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 22.7 grams, 38.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7413.
