Coin Details
Description
This 1968 Franklin Mint bronze medal commemorates the Delaware Memorial Bridge — the twin-span suspension bridge crossing the Delaware River between New Castle, Delaware, and Deepwater, New Jersey. The original span opened in 1951, with a twin span added in 1968, coinciding with the date of this medal. The Delaware Memorial Bridge was named in honor of the men and women from Delaware who died in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The Franklin Mint's production of a bridge commemoration medal reflects the mint's broad approach to subject matter during the late 1960s, when it was producing medals for virtually every commemorative occasion. Bronze composition was standard for infrastructure and public works commemoratives that were distributed to officials, workers, and ceremony attendees.
Rarity Notes
Bronze, Franklin Mint 1968. Infrastructure commemorative medal. Limited collector base but historically interesting.
