This 1965 Franklin Mint medal cataloged as X-PT4 is the platinum version of the Gardiner's Island series — an extraordinary piece in what may be the most exclusive private series ever produced by the Franklin Mint. Platinum was the most expensive metal available for medallic production, and its use for a Gardiner's Island medal reflects either a special commission or the Franklin Mint's desire to demonstrate its capability with the most precious metals.
