1964 Quarter Pattern - RB-1410, INCO
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
An experimental quarter bearing INCO's RB-1410 alloy designation, one of the final entries in the 1400-series sub-family of the 1964 clad coinage evaluation program. This piece represents the outer boundary of the fourth major alloy family tested by the International Nickel Company on Washington quarter dies. The cumulative testing across all INCO alloy families — from the 1000-series through the 1400-series, plus additional series on other denominations — created an unparalleled body of empirical coinage metallurgy data. The resulting copper-nickel clad composition, specified in the Coinage Act of 1965, has proven so successful that it remains unchanged more than sixty years later, a testament to the thoroughness of the evaluation program that produced these experimental test pieces.
Rarity Notes
Extremely rare experimental issue and one of the last entries in the 1400-series. Surviving examples number in single digits.
