1964 Quarter Pattern - RB-1310, INCO
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This INCO experimental quarter carries the RB-1310 alloy designation from the 1300-series sub-family of the 1964 silver replacement testing program. The piece was produced as part of the most extensive metallurgical evaluation in US coinage history, an effort driven by the rapidly deteriorating economics of silver coinage. The 1300-series alloys represented one of several parallel tracks in INCO's search for the optimal coinage composition, with each track exploring a distinct metallurgical approach. The International Nickel Company leveraged its decades of experience in commercial nickel alloy development to bring industrial-grade research rigor to the centuries-old challenge of coinage metallurgy.
Rarity Notes
Extremely rare experimental issue. Individual RB compositions in the 1300-series typically survive in quantities of one to five pieces.
