1964 Quarter Pattern - RB-1185, INCO
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This experimental quarter features the RB-1185 alloy composition from the International Nickel Company's 1964 clad coinage evaluation program. Produced at Medallic Art Company using Treasury-authorized Washington quarter dies, the piece represents one of the last compositions tested in the 1100-series sub-family. The systematic progression through this alloy series allowed INCO's metallurgists to identify the precise combination of copper and nickel that optimized striking quality, durability, and visual appearance. The findings from this series, combined with data from the other INCO alloy families, formed the technical foundation for the copper-nickel clad composition adopted under the Coinage Act of 1965.
Rarity Notes
Extremely rare. INCO experimental quarters from the 1100-series are known in very small quantities, with most individual compositions surviving in fewer than five examples.
