1964 Quarter Pattern - RB-1155, INCO
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
This INCO experimental quarter features the RB-1155 alloy composition, one of the last entries in the 1100-series of test strikes. The comprehensive nature of INCO's program is evident in the sheer number of individual compositions tested: the Reed-Brenner catalog documents hundreds of distinct alloy variants across all denominations, each identified by a unique RB number. The RB-1155 variant provided Treasury evaluators with another data point in their search for the optimal coinage alloy, one that would satisfy the sometimes competing requirements of striking quality, durability, production efficiency, counterfeit resistance, and public acceptance.
Rarity Notes
Extremely rare experimental issue surviving in very small quantities. These pieces rarely appear at auction and command significant premiums among pattern specialists.
