Description

Part of the 1100-series of INCO experimental quarters, the RB-1120 composition represents one of several alloy variations tested within this sub-family. The International Nickel Company produced these test pieces at Medallic Art Company's New York facility using official Treasury-authorized Washington quarter dies. The combination of authentic US Mint dies with experimental planchets allowed evaluators to assess alloy performance under realistic production conditions, including metal flow into shallow design elements like hair strands on Washington's portrait and fine lettering around the rim. These test strikes served as the empirical foundation for one of the most significant changes in US coinage history.

Rarity Notes

Extremely rare. Fewer than five examples exist for most individual RB-number compositions in the INCO experimental quarter series.
