1964 Quarter Pattern - RB-1115, INCO
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
The RB-1115 experimental quarter continues the 1100-series alloy exploration within INCO's landmark 1964 testing program. Each successive composition in this sub-series refined the alloy parameters established by the RB-1100 base formulation, adjusting variables such as nickel percentage, copper content, trace element additions, or cladding layer ratios. The International Nickel Company's research team documented each variant's performance under standardized testing conditions, creating what amounted to a comprehensive materials science database for coinage alloys. This systematic approach proved decisive in the Treasury's ultimate selection of the copper-nickel clad composition that remains in use for US quarters more than sixty years later.
Rarity Notes
Extremely rare experimental issue. Most INCO 1100-series compositions are known from only a handful of surviving examples.
