1964 Quarter Pattern - RB-1110, INCO
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
An experimental clad quarter bearing the RB-1110 alloy designation from the International Nickel Company's 1964 testing program. This piece is part of the 1100-series sub-group that tested a particular family of alloy compositions. The extensive scope of INCO's program reflected not just the Treasury's urgency but also INCO's desire to demonstrate that nickel-based alloys were superior to competing proposals from other metals companies, including Olin Mathieson's aluminum-based alternatives and DuPont's experimental compositions. The competitive aspect of the 1964 testing program drove each company to produce dozens of variants optimized for different performance criteria.
Rarity Notes
Extremely rare experimental piece surviving in very small quantities. These test strikes are cataloged in the Reed-Brenner reference but precise population data remains limited.
