Description
This 1962 bronze medal commemorates the joint convention of the American Numismatic Association and the Canadian Numismatic Association held in Detroit, Michigan. Joint A.N.A./C.N.A. conventions were special events that brought together collectors from both nations, reflecting the close ties between American and Canadian numismatic communities and the shared interests of collectors on both sides of the border. Detroit's location on the international border made it a natural venue for this binational gathering, allowing easy attendance from both countries. The 1962 joint convention in Detroit took place during the height of the early 1960s coin collecting boom, when membership in the A.N.A. was surging and public interest in coins had reached unprecedented levels. The bronze medal served as a souvenir for the thousands of collectors who attended the bourse floor and educational programs. Joint A.N.A./C.N.A. convention medals are particularly collectible because of their relative rarity compared to standard annual convention issues, as these binational gatherings occurred only occasionally when scheduling and logistics aligned.
Rarity Notes
Scarce joint A.N.A./C.N.A. convention medal in bronze. Joint conventions occurred infrequently, making their medals less common than standard annual issues.
