Cohen Index 58-71 identifies this particular die — a number thirty-one positions beyond the preceding entry's 58-40, indicating substantial cataloging activity between the two. As a variety from the Wheat Cent's farewell year, this spiked head belongs to the last cohort of obverse dies that would ever be paired with the wheat-ears reverse. After 1958, the Memorial reverse designed by Frank Gasparro took over, and no further Wheat Cent dies were manufactured.
