Description
The 1955 Franklin Half Dollar is a half dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Franklin Half Dollars 1948-1963 series. With a mintage of 2.5 million, this is a scarce issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 87% of production. The obverse features Benjamin Franklin facing right and the reverse displays the Liberty Bell. A "Bugs Bunny" die clash variety exists where die clash marks give Franklin the appearance of buck teeth. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $39 to $92 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6670.
