Description
The 1953 Franklin Half Dollar is a half dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Franklin Half Dollars 1948-1963 series. With a mintage of 2.7 million, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 10% of total production. The obverse features Benjamin Franklin facing right and the reverse displays the Liberty Bell. The 1953-S is the condition rarity of the series — extremely scarce in Full Bell Lines designation. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $37 to $146 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6664.
