Description
A nickel from the Denver Mint, the 1951 (D) Jefferson Nickel belongs to the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The Denver Mint struck 20,460,000 nickels dated 1951. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. All three mints active. Denver production exceeded Philadelphia for the first time in the series. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0.05 to $19 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4044.
