Description
The 1951 (D) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. With a mintage of 20.5 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 36% of production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. All three mints active. Denver production exceeded Philadelphia for the first time in the series. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal.
