Description
The 1949 (S) Franklin Half Dollar is a half dollar produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Franklin Half Dollars 1948-1963 series. With a mintage of 3.7 million, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 28% of total production. The obverse features Benjamin Franklin facing right and the reverse displays the Liberty Bell. The 1949-S is a semi-key date with a lower mintage. Three mints struck halves: Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $37 to $240 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6655.
