Description

The 1934 (S) Peace Dollar is a dollar produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Peace Dollars 1921-1935 series. With a mintage of 1.0 million, this is a scarce issue β€” ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 29% of production. The obverse features a youthful Liberty facing left wearing a radiate crown, designed after sculptor Anthony de Francisci's wife Teresa and the reverse displays a bald eagle perched on a rock above the word PEACE, with rays of sunlight. Production resumed after a five-year hiatus (1929-1933) driven by the Great Depression. The 1934-S is a semi-key date. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $118 to $14K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7377.
