Description
The 1922 Proof Peace Dollar - Matte Finish High Relief is a proof dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Peace Dollars 1921-1935 series. The figure of 10 covers 1922 proof Peace dollars across all of their finishes and reliefs; how many are Matte Finish High Relief coins is not recorded. The obverse features a youthful Liberty facing left wearing a radiate crown, designed after sculptor Anthony de Francisci's wife Teresa and the reverse displays a bald eagle perched on a rock above the word PEACE, with rays of sunlight. The relief was lowered for mass production after the high-relief 1921 dies caused striking problems. Struck as a proof with a matte finish rather than mirrored fields. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $313K. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7383.
