Part of the Philippines Twenty Centavos series spanning 1903 to 1945, the 1921 issue was struck in silver during the American colonial administration of the Philippine Islands following the Spanish-American War of 1898 and the Treaty of Paris. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil — representing the industriousness and productive capacity of the Filipino people — while the reverse displays an eagle perched above a shield, the heraldic emblem of American sovereignty over the archipelago.
