Opening the 1920-S rim cud catalog, CU-1C-1920S-01R documents the first verified cud on a San Francisco Lincoln Wheat cent from the post-war transition year. Unlike its Denver counterpart, the San Francisco Mint carried a longer institutional memory of wartime die stress — having produced the cud-prolific 1917-S and 1918-S issues just two and three years earlier. The early 1920s saw San Francisco continuing to strike cents in substantial quantities, serving West Coast commerce and Pacific trade routes. Each rim cud tells a story of a specific die's terminal failure, and the 01R entry establishes the baseline for the 1920-S date.
