Description

The 1915 (S) Panama-Pacific International Exposition Commemorative Gold Fifty Dollar - Octagonal is a gold coin produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Classic Gold Commemoratives (1903-1926) series. With a mintage of only 645, this is an extremely rare issue. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, while the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Designed by Robert Aitken. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 83.59 grams, 46 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7452. Classic Gold Commemoratives were produced between 1903 and 1926 in gold dollar and $2.50 quarter eagle denominations. Low mintages across the entire group make most classic gold commemoratives scarce. The 1915 Panama-Pacific $50 pieces are among the most valuable commemorative coins.
